Between the desert and the deep blue sea

From April to October, life is a beach on Tunisia's 800 miles of Mediterranean coast. But this small country at the top of North Africa offers more than seaside fun. In winter, it's still warm enough to enjoy shopping in the souks, see the historic sights or the oases on the edge of the world's largest desert...

Some of the most complete Roman settlements in existence command stunning locations in Tunisia. In the landscapes of Star Wars, cave dwellings burrow beneath the surface and ancient fortified granaries built by the Berbers are carved out of towering rocks. Medieval medinas and glittering souks invite you to explore, bargain and buy, while the uniqueness of the desert draws those with a taste for controlled adventure. All this and the best-value beach holidays around the Med.

So near so good
And how far to this land of infinite possibilities? You don’t need a magic carpet of a genial genie to transport you to its thousand-and-one pleasures. Just a two-and- three-quarter hour flight from the UK.

Exotic with a touch of the familiar
Tunisia may be another world but it’s user-friendly. People from all around the Mediterranean have settled here (not surprisingly) making it the most European of the desert states. Resorts are cosmopolitan, with unlimited watersports, great tennis and golf. Hotels offer up-to-the-minute facilities and in some cases drop-dead luxury. Food can be international, spicy and Tunisian, sophisticated French or hamburgers with french fries. Take your pick. The seafood is fresh, vegetables and fruit are home-grown and Tunisian wines are palatable and good value.

The Language
English is spoken in most of the resorts and a bit of French will take you anywhere (it’s the most widely used although Arabic is the official language).

Decisions, decisions
The only problem is choosing which aspect of Tunisia you’re going to go for. A holiday that’s long, short, stay-put or touring around? Do you want beach scenes or desert backdrops, city sights or Roman ruins? Or all of these combined? Whatever, we can arrange it. You can have Tunisia ready-made in a simple package or tailor-made to suit your own individual preferences. Just turn the pages of this brochure and discover the tantalizing range of options.

Year-round sunshine
From April to November, temperatures don’t drop below 70F (21C). They soar in July and August. Winter is cooler but bright. The ideal time to go touring is any time from September to June. The chart shows average daily maximum temperatures in °F and °C plus the average daily hours of sunshine. Jerba and the south are generally a few degrees higher.  (See temperatures to the right)
