A few suggestions

Tunis and Sidi Bou Saïd: the charm of boutique hotels

Suggestion: 3 nights in Tunis, 4 nights in Sidi Bou Saïd

Stay in the centre of the medina of Tunis in the recently opened Dar El Médina within walking distance of many of the capital’s major attractions, then transfer to the coast at Sidi Bou Saïd, close to the historic ruins of Carthage, for a few days’ relaxation at the outstanding Dar Saïd boutique hotel, brimming with traditional old-world charm.

Possible optional excursions: Dougga, Thuburbo Majus and Oudna.

Tunis and Sousse: history and culture

Suggestion: 4 nights in Tunis, 3 nights in Port El Kantaoui

Explore the capital and its World Heritage-listed medina, the outstanding Bardo museum (mosaics and other Roman treasures), the ruins of Carthage and Punic museum, and the picturesque artists’ village of Sidi Bou Saïd. On to the coast for fun in the sun at lively Port El Kantaoui, only a short hop away from the mediaeval walled town of Sousse, with its Kasbah, catacombs, markets and restaurants.

Choose a lovely hotel in Djerba lapped by Mediterranean waters, then enjoy a real Sahara adventure at an oasis surrounded by sand to the horizon. At Ksar Ghilane you will stay in canvas tents with a hot spring and sand dunes only a few steps away.

Possible optional excursions: In Djerba – tour of the island, plus the troglodyte underground dwellings of Matmata and Tataouine area including Chenini and ancient Ksour (Berber fortified granaries). At Ksar Ghilane – camel rides on the dunes.

The island of Djerba and the oases of Tozeur: island charm and English Patient scenery

Suggestion: 4 nights in Djerba, 3 nights in Tozeur or Tamerza

Relax in Djerba and have fun by the sea, then cross to the mainland and visit oases producing the sweetest of dates. On your way to Tozeur, you will visit the troglodyte underground dwellings of Matmata, the oasis town of Douz on the edge of the Sahara and drive across the impressive Chott El Jerid salt lake via the causeway.

Possible optional excursions: In Djerba – tour of the island.

From Tozeur – nearby salt lake and dunes, locations for The English Patient and Star Wars films; the remarkable mountain oases of Chebika and Midès and the unique Red Lizard train excursion.
